#13 Postcard Trivia 2.6.18
After an exciting week with a Super Blue Blood Moon on Jan. 31 and a Super Bowl on Feb. 4, it's a great time to find out more about a super historical building that was featured in many photos during the street celebrations following the Philadelphia Eagles' Super Bowl victory (see images below). The spectacular structure on this postcard (early 1900's) is Philadelphia's City Hall, the largest municipal building in the country. It was completed in 1901 after 30 years of construction. The Center Square where it is located was set aside for public buildings in 1682 by William Penn when he designed the city. The exterior of the building is elaborately decorated with sculptures and the first floor is solid granite. On the top of the tower is a statue of William Penn that weighs 27 tons. Visitors to the city can take a guided tour which includes a trip to the observation deck with a spectacular view of the city and surrounding area. I need to put that on my list for future travel!
For this week's trivia, which answer will correctly complete this sentence?
The 548-foot tower on Philadelphia's City Hall is the tallest masonry structure in the world _____________
A. with a statue on top. B. without a steel frame. C. with an observation deck.
