#19 Postcard Trivia 3.27.18

C. To protect the expensive blades - finger protection was a bonus!   Postcard from the collection of J Garner

Chicks on a fan? Happy Easter from the early 1900s! This well-worn postcard was published sometime between 1907 and 1915. It's definitely a unique idea to mix chicks, eggs, and a bunny with an electric fan! In 1910, not every home had an electric fan. It was a new development for residential use and still considered a major appliance. Chicks and eggs, however, have been around for a long time!

The first electric fan was produced in 1882. It did not have a cage surrounding the blades. Why was the cage added in the 1890's?

A. For safety reasons, to protect fingers      B. For decorative reasons       C. To protect the expensive blades from damage
