#22 Postcard Trivia 4.17.18
The beautiful lady on this postcard from 1900 is the famous London stage actress, Marie Studholme. She was wildly popular at the height of her career (think Jennifer Lopez or Beyonce!) - which made her a perfect model for postcards. Marie (real name - Caroline Maria Lupton) was born in England in 1872, and began her stage career at the age of 19. She went on to star in hundreds of musicals and plays in London and on tour in British provinces. She retired from acting in 1915 and lived in England until she died of rheumatic fever at the age of 57. Marie loved animals, particularly dogs and parrots. It is reported that she frequently charged a sixpence for her autograph and then gave the money to charities that supported animals. In her retirement, she enjoyed a weekend home that was built in 1909 by an architect, Edward Maufe. She named it "The Barn." see photo below
Marie's weekend home, The Barn, fits in with a 21st century trend in home building. What trendy name is used today to describe large, open-plan, rustic homes built on acreage in the country?
A. ranch townhouse B. barndominium C. barnvilla
