In the 1930's, people flocked to...Marlin, Texas? Yes, this little town near Waco, Texas, was a hot spot for mineral baths. Featuring several bath houses, sanatoriums, health clinics, and a hotel, Marlin provided the best in healing waters and health resorts. Before World War II and the development of penicillin, "taking the waters" in bath houses was a common practice and was believed to cure most anything from a headache to alcoholism. From the discovery of the springs in 1892 until the 1940's, hundreds of thousands of visitors made their way to Marlin to bathe in the warm mineral waters . Today, all that remains of the mineral water era is the Mineral Water Pavilion and a mineral water fountain. See photos below. 

The Falls Hotel, a nine story hotel that was built in Marlin in 1929, is the tallest building in Falls County. A tunnel connected it to the Buie Clinic and Marlin Bath House. What famous hotel tycoon built the Falls Hotel?
