Postcard from collection of J Garner. A “Superchrome” Product by Bill Bard Associates, Monticello, N.Y.

Beach trip or ski trip? Warm water or snow? No need to decide! You can have both at Laurels Hotel and Country Club on Sackett Lake in the Catskill Mountains of New York. This enticing postcard advertises the unique features of this popular vacation destination. Where else can you show off your new swimsuit to friends as they ski in from the slopes? During the early to middle part of the 20th century, this hip resort was the place to be - a must for trendy socialites. Laurels featured indoor and outdoor pools, steam rooms and sauna baths, a nightclub, a golf course, a ski lift, an indoor skating rink, and boat rentals on the lake. Unfortunately, the legendary hotel came to a disappointing end on July 21, 1973. Acting on a foreclosure, the Sullivan County Sheriff seized the hotel and guests were turned out and forced to find other accommodations for the night. Today, all of the buildings have been torn down and all that remains are empty swimming pools in the middle of a beautiful forest.
