#47 Postcard Trivia 3.12.19
A small hook of rocky land juts out from the southern tip of Africa. It is called the Cape Peninsula and its prominent feature is Table Mountain, one of the oldest mountains on earth. Surrounded by water on three sides, the cape is a spectacular combination of turquoise blue ocean, rocky shoreline, mountaintops, and unique plants and animals. This Art Publishers postcard features an exceptional set of photographs that makes me want to take the first flight to the southern tip of Africa! Table Mountain National Park is a natural wonder with over 2000 different plant species. Even the ocean life in nearby False Bay is unique - 40% of the seaweed varieties and 31% of the sea animals are found no where else on earth. (GEOExPro) The national park was nominated as a UNESCO world heritage site in 2003. The port city of Cape Town is located on the north end of the peninsula and is the oldest city in South Africa. It was established by the Dutch East India Company in 1652 as a supply station for Dutch ships.
