They’re GR-R-REAT!” After hearing a convincing slogan like that, who wouldn’t follow Tony the Tiger’s advice and try a bowl of Kellogg’s Frosted Flakes? Tony the Tiger has been a star of Kellogg’s advertising since the 1950’s. He is also the star on this promotional, mid-20th century postcard created by Kellogg’s that features their headquarters in Battle Creek, Michigan. In 1898, the Kellogg brothers changed breakfast forever when they discovered a method of flaking wheat and corn. Their first product, Corn Flakes, was a hit and was soon followed by All Bran and Raisin Bran. Kellogg’s cereals have been part of the American breakfast for over 100 years during such historic events as the Great Depression, WWI, WWII, and NASA space missions. Today, Kellogg’s operates in over 180 countries worldwide. By the way, Tony was not a shoe-in for the top spot as a famous cereal spokesperson. He had to beat out three competitors -Katy the Kangaroo, Elmo the Elephant, and Newt the Gnu. I’m glad Tony won. We all needed to be inspired by something GR-R-R-EAT on Saturday mornings!

(Tony the Tiger, Frosted Flakes, Corn Flakes, All Bran, Raisin Bran, Katy the Kangaroo, Elmo the Elephant, Newt the Gnu, and “They’re GR-R-REAT!”, are all Trade Marks of Kellogg’s.)
