It's a match - Find a vintage postcard to match a new one from recent travel.
A couple of weeks ago I was on a quest to find vintage postcards to match new postcards that I bought on a trip. My husband and I recently traveled to Chattanooga, Tennessee - a place full of natural beauty, spectacular attractions, and super friendly people. I picked up postcards at every stop. After we returned, I had a chance to visit a postcard show in Dallas. I looked through the displays for vintage postcards that featured the same Chattanooga tourist attractions that we visited. I hit the jackpot with one card. Six different views of Rock City! We experienced all six in much the same way as the tourists in the 1950's. It was great to see Fat Man's Squeeze on the vintage postcard. We loved that part of the trail and even took videos of us mastering the "squeeze!"
We also rode the Incline Railway. Built in 1895, it is a steep, one-mile ride to the top of Lookout Mountain. I found a postcard of the railway from 1906 as well as one from 1956. Not much has changed - it's still a beautiful ride to the top!
Here are three of the new postcards of Rock City and the vintage one with the same views - Swing Along Bridge, Seven States, and Lover's Leap. And below are the two vintage postcards of the incline railway:
