Special Things in McKinney

I enjoyed a trip to downtown McKinney last week and found more treasures! This unique little shop, Special Things Antiques & Art, is located right on the square. I'm so glad I stopped in. The owner has a large collection of antique Christmas cards and they were placed all around the store like little pieces of Victorian art. These lovely cards are the size of a postcard but pre-date the postcard era and had to be mailed in an envelope. Dating from the 1870's and 1880's, they are real treasures. See photos below. Some of the cards had typical Christmas scenery and decoration. But, surprisingly, some Christmas cards were decorated with spring flowers and other subjects. The bird card below is an example. Finding cards from the Victorian age was a wonderful treat and I look forward to shopping at Special Things again!
