The Fort Worth Stockyards is a National Historic District. What began as cattle drives in the 1860's, became big business at the turn of the century. By 1917, The Fort Worth Stockyard Company was the largest livestock market in the world. It supplied allied forces with horses and mules during WWI. The Coliseum, built in 1907, was the home of the first indoor rodeo. Since the early days of the cattle drives, Fort Worth has been known as Cow Town.
